Peace Hall Münster

The Peace Hall in Münster's historical town hall should be high up on the list of sights to see when visiting the city.

The town hall in Münster is a Gothic building that dates back to the middle of the 14th century. Its tall gables make it a unique sight to behold across the whole of Germany. The landmark gabled building was faithfully reconstructed back in the 1950s. In 1648, the Spanish-Dutch Peace Treaty was signed in the Peace Hall as part of the Peace of Westphalia, making the building an integral part of European history.

The magnificent Renaissance panelling dating back to around 1577, the stunning chandeliers and the portrait gallery featuring 37 historical paintings of the emissaries are amongst the highlights. But there is no end of other objects that have a story to tell. This is certainly the place to come to live and breathe history. What's more, the European Commission awarded the Town Halls of Münster and Osnabrück the European Cultural Heritage Label as sites of the Peace of Westphalia in April 2015. Opening times: Tuesday to Friday: 10 am–5 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 10 am–4 pm
