Geyser Discovery Centre Andernach

Between March and October, visitors are welcome to marvel at a stunning natural spectacle in the East Eifel volcanic region as the world's largest cold-water geyser shoots up high into the sky.

In the north of Rhineland-Palatinate, visitors are taken on an exciting journey deep below the Earth's surface. The Andernach geyser is the tallest cold-water geyser in the world, reaching heights of up to 60 metres. The Geyser Discovery Centre offers a fascinating insight into this natural phenomenon in the form of interactive exhibits, experimentation stations and media installations. How is it possible that the groundwater is as warm as 25 degrees Celsius here? Why is there carbon dioxide several hundred metres underneath the Earth's surface?

Visitors can follow CO2 molecules on a virtual journey to the surface and learn how the pressure builds up to around 35 bar to catapult the groundwater above the surface. Hop aboard one of the ships in the Geyser Fleet to make the 15-minute journey on the Rhine to the Namedy Werth peninsula. Here, you can marvel at the incredible geyser up close as the volcanic carbon dioxide works its magic. Opening times: March to October: Monday to Sunday 9 am–5.30 pm
