As a wine-growing region, Baden is one of a kind. Shielded by the Odenwald hills and the Black Forest on one side and the Vosges mountains on the other, there's no sunnier or warmer climate in the whole of Germany.

With temperatures close to those in the Mediterranean and fertile soil, Baden is one of Europe's finest wine-growing regions. The landscape of this area spanning 400 kilometres in length is diverse, meaning that the wines produced here are varied. Tourists flock to the region to admire the natural diversity alongside no end of tiny wine-growing villages and towns steeped in history, such as Heidelberg, Konstanz, Baden-Baden and Freiburg.

Main grape varieties: Rivaner, Riesling and Pinot Meunier in the north, Pinot Noir and Riesling in Ortenau and red and white Burgundy in the south. Chasselas is a wine speciality produced in the Markgräflerland area.
