Mainz Art Hall

The Mainz Art Hall is home to contemporary art from around the world. Berlin architect Günter Zamp Kelp designed the conversion of the historical brick building with its striking tower that slants at a seven-degree angle.

The Mainz Art Hall, which doesn't have a collection of its own, is designed to host temporary exhibitions featuring contemporary art. Modern-day art movements are put on display, with current topics in art, politics and society being presented and shared with the public. The focus is on exhibitions of international standing focusing on a single artist and theme. Each of these exhibitions is accompanied by lectures, tours and workshops aimed at adults and children.

There is also a complementary programme of events, such as discussions, conversations with artists and lecture series. In September 2012, a projection room was even set up so that audiovisual media can be shown, including videos by Joan Jonas, Maria Lassnig, Anri Sala, Clemens von Wedemeyer and John Bock. In keeping with the quirky exhibition concept, the museum's architectural design is extraordinary. The historical brick building stands in stark contrast to the modern, slanted tower. Opening times: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: 10 am–6 pm, Wednesday: 10 am–9 pm, Saturday and Sunday: 11 am–6 pm, public holidays: 11 am–6 pm
