On the road together

Whether on the coast, in the mountains or in the heart of a city: from List on the island of Sylt to Oberstdorf in the Allgäu, from Aachen to Görlitz, youth hostels can be found throughout Germany. They accompany travelers across all regions and offer more than just a place to stay – they are starting points for shared discovery and active travel experiences.

Youth hostels cater to a wide range of groups, from school trips and group travel to family holidays, conferences and seminars. The hostels are regularly reviewed against defined quality standards. The label “Especially suitable for …” helps guests choose the right hostel and supports planning.

For more than 100 years, the German Youth Hostels Association (DJH) has stood for encounters and exchange between people from all over the world. As a non-profit organization, the DJH represents values such as inclusion, open-mindedness and tolerance – firmly embedded in the daily operations of its hostels.

Around 400 youth hostels are located throughout Germany, with more than 2,500 worldwide. The DJH offers affordable accommodation with added value and a clear focus on community-oriented travel, education and memorable experiences. More than 2.3 million members place their trust in this proven concept.

Unique accommodations in castles, palaces and other extraordinary settings complement the portfolio. Cultural programmes, sports activities and experiential learning opportunities - along with environmental education - ensure varied and enriching stays. In addition, DJH takes social and economic factors into account in its programmes and in the operation of its youth hostels, and addresses environmental topics in its educational offer.
