The German Wine Institute (Deutsches Weininstitut - DWI) is the central communication and marketing organisation of the German wine industry. It is an umbrella organisation for all players of the industry and promotes Wines of Germany on a global scale.
Based in Bodenheim, near the state capital Mainz, the institute currently employs 42 people and operates eleven information offices worldwide. Sales of German quality wines are supported through communication, particularly in the medium and high-price segments. Measures include press relations, online communication, public relations, advertising campaigns and events as well as presentations at trade fairs worldwide, training programs, seminars and market research. All of the DWI's communication and marketing campaigns pursue one goal: to convince consumers worldwide of the uniqueness of the quality and Prädikat wines from the 13 German wine-growing regions. Important topics for this are the long ripening period of the "cool climate zone", which benefits the development of aromas, the importance of wine culture and tourism, in short: the unique tension between tradition and modernity.
